Do Singapore passport holders need a visa for Malaysia?

Malaysia’s Immigration Department says no for Singapore nationals: “Visas required for duration of stay exceeds (1) month except for Brunei and Singapore nationals.”

Only the Singapore citizens in your party skip the MDAC. Everyone else on a foreign passport registers their own, including a spouse who is a Singapore PR and a foreign domestic worker, unless the exemption list covers them in their own right.

Family members who are Malaysian citizens do not register: the MDAC is for foreign citizens.

You can fill in their MDACs for them: the Immigration Department’s FAQ puts no restriction on filling one in for someone else, though each traveler still goes through the immigration check at the counter.

I’m a Singapore PR. Am I exempt?

Not because of your Singapore PR. The exemption list and the High Commission name Malaysia’s permanent residents as “Malaysian Permanent Residents”, so you register an MDAC unless another entry on the list covers you. The Immigration Department’s FAQ words that entry as “Permanent Resident (PR) status holders”, without naming a country.

Does a Singapore work pass count as a long-term pass?

No. The long-term passes on the list are Malaysia’s own, “Malaysian Long Term Pass Holders”. A work pass issued by Singapore, a foreign domestic worker’s included, does not exempt anyone from the MDAC.

Why do some official infographics tell Singaporeans to submit the MDAC?

Two sets of official Malaysian material disagree. The Immigration Department’s exemption list, in force since 1 January 2024, exempts citizens of Singapore. Its automated-gate infographics from 2023, still on its website, count Singaporeans among the eligible users and tell them to submit the MDAC within three days before arrival, “FOR EVERY VISIT”.
