Do India passport holders need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes, an eVisa, applied for online and approved before you travel. The Vietnam Pre-Arrival Declaration is a separate step before you fly. Ho Chi Minh City’s immigration office announced it as required for Tan Son Nhat airport, while Vietnam’s embassies have called it voluntary and its Immigration Department now highly recommends it.

Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?

Vietnam’s bilateral visa exemption for India covers diplomatic and official passports only, so an ordinary Indian passport needs a visa for Vietnam. The exception is a trip to Phu Quoc island, below.

The same list from Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lets foreigners who enter Phu Quoc island from abroad stay up to 30 days without a visa. That includes those who wait in the transit area of another Vietnamese international border gate, by air or sea, and then travel on to the island.

Vietnam’s government e-visa site states: “E-visa fee: 25 USD for a single-entry visa / 50 USD for a multiple-entry visa.”

The fee is paid on the e-visa portal and is not refunded if the visa is not granted.

The e-visa is valid for up to 90 days, for a single entry or multiple entries.

E-visa holders enter and leave only through the border gates the government designates. The e-visa site’s list includes Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, and Phu Quoc airports, the same five the pre-arrival form offers.

What goes in the visa and name boxes on the pre-arrival form?

Choose Electronic Visa (E-Visa) under Visa Type / Purpose, then copy your e-visa number into the Number box. The form’s help text reads: “Check the 'Số / No.' line on the e-visa and enter the exact number shown. The E-Visa number must be numeric and 9 digits long.”

Don’t choose Bilateral exemption: Indian ordinary passports are not on the form’s exemption list, and the form turns that choice down with “This country and passport do not have a bilateral visa exemption. Please check again”.

Going only to Phu Quoc island, without a visa? Choose Phu Quoc Visa Exemption under Visa Type / Purpose; with it selected, the form no longer requires the Number box, so leave it empty.

The form requires Given Name but not Surname; both take letters, numbers, and spaces only. If your passport shows only one name, leave Surname empty and put that name in Given Name.
